Numero uno) Clementines can always be found in the kitchen: Around the end of October clementines magically begin to appear in grocery stores, and around the mid-November they begin to be marked down to a more reasonable purchasing price. That generally coincides with the time when my doesn't come back from the store without a box of these delicious little, orange fruits. When all my brothers lived at home we had a rule of no more than two per each of us per day. But now I'm practically shoving them down Adam's throat. These fruits are too festive-I don't want them to go to waste!
2) My mom kicks her cleaning into overdrive: Not that my mom doesn't clean year round but there's something about the colder weather that makes her hyper-productive. There's no particular reason for it either, we rarely host holiday events or really require the carpets to vacuumed everyday but by December I swear it's like Spring Cleaning came early at our humble abode.
3) My room becomes an ice box: I'm not sure why this happens. I do have proper heating in my room, and proper vents, and proper installation but every.single.year my bedroom is the coldest. Why you thoughtful people may ask? I have no jolly idea. All I know is by each December I have a heated mattress pad, flannel sheets, two flannel blankets and comforter on top of me and I still have to make sure to not break my blanket cocoon too suddenly in the morning for fear of turning into an icicle. My freezing room is a modern phenomenon just know that. (It works out great for me in the summer though)
4) I become highly uncertain about when to decorate for Christmas: When is an appropriate time to put up a tree? How long do you leave it up? Are you basically Grinch if you've never hung lights on your house? At point in the new year are you allowed to start judging your neighbors for still having their lights up? (And my other Christmas questions) Who am I going to build a snowman with this year? Where is a good place to go sledding? What's a good brand of hot chocolate? Milk or water? After 18 years all these questions remain unanswered and each year I feel no closer to the answers.
5) I attempt and fail to watch every "ABC's 25 Days of Christmas: In my defense that's a big commitment, and like, I just can't remember all that.
What are some of your non-traditional traditions?
(ALSO! Shout out to all the readers lately! Yesterday this little blog reached an all time high of non-coerced-by-a-blog-facebook-posting-readers. It made my heart grow two full sizes (Grinch reference!) Honestly though, it floors me that people read this stuff, I think my life is so boring. But, hey ya know, keep up the good work and stuff)
Ciao amici! Happy December!
